Here are just a few testimonials from some of the athletes we have worked with. Obviously every athlete – and experience – is different, but we also realise that potential clients want to see who has worked with us. Here we let some of those clients speak for us!
John has helped me over the last 3 years now, from having only just learned to swim all the way up to winning in Rio – and now on my challenge toward Tokyo 2020. John has really improved my swimming and taken the time to help me balance my stroke even with my missing leg. I can’t wait to work on the goals ahead!

Siobhan Marie O’Connor:
John is a very inspiring and enthusiastic coach. He is committed to ensuring his athletes got the very best of themselves and I
enjoyed and progressed very quickly during my time with him. I won my first national titles swimming with him, and it certainly helped set up my development toward the Olympics in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games this year.

John was my coach around the age of 11-14 , at this age enjoyment is crucial and the opportunities provided in the pool really helped set me up for a long career in the sport. The technique focus in the sessions has helped me even until now and by the age of 13 I had made my first national cut, no doubt with a huge contribution from John. The huge level of enjoyment I was able to experience, and the lack of negative pressure, has meant that I still love swimming and I can see myself doing it for the foreseeable future!
As an athlete who puts a lot of time into training and race preparation any time I have is precious. The difference between a group swim session and a one to one with John is that he can really target specifics and give individual feedback at a level appropriate for your aims. Time spent during a one to one coaching session feels like an investment that pays off extremely quickly. I would recommend a one to one with John to any level of athlete from beginner to elite.
Great 1st swim coaching session this morning John. So beneficial to analyse my technique and it is amazing how such small simple changes can improve performance! I’m looking forward to the next sessions and hopefully some PB swims in 2014. Thanks again!
John, thanks for a great swim coaching session, I have had many lessons and this was the best! Simple, basic advice which I can go away and practise.
While I swam regularly as a kid, as an adult I hated it. I’d done a couple of
sprint triathlons in the past and managed to barely get my hair wet in training, but when I signed up to do a half ironman I realised, not only did I not have a clue how to approach training, I also needed to get in the damn pool. I spoke to a number of coaches and decided on John because he seemed friendly and approachable, didn’t talk too technically and knew a lot about swimming – an area some coaches lack in. His online plans are easy to follow, don’t blind you with jargon and, most importantly, are varied and FUN! Within three weeks of training with John I had completed a 2.5k swimathon – a distance just a few weeks before I didn’t think I could complete – and I had actually started to enjoy going to the pool (weird). That’s one of the great things about Mr Wood, he doesn’t just give you the drills, plans and advice to tackle training, he also gives you the confidence to go out there and smash it. If there’s one thing I’ve learned training with John, it’s that if transition is the fourth discipline, confidence and mindset are definitely the fifth.
I’ve always done swimming as part of triathlon training and with sailing but it had come to the point where I was just ploughing up and down the pool. Having had a video swim analysis session, I’m now enjoying swimming more than ever, swimming further and faster than I have done ever and it’s having a major positive impact on the rest of my training. The last 6 months had also been plagued with foot injury but doing some structured training and core/balance work has really helped reverse the pain and stiffness around the area.
