I have been involved in swimming for the last 25 years and have competed at National and International levels. Within this period I have been swim coaching and taught for the last 15 years including multiple national finalists and champions. I took up triathlon 10 years ago successfully competing at 4 European Age Group Championships, with a best placing of 4th in 2012 in Eilat, Israel. I have knowledge and first-hand experience of racing all distances of triathlon, from super-sprint to Ironman, having started with the intention of just doing a couple of races for fun! I started coaching triathlon and running in the last six years.
These experiences give me a unique insight into triathlon, but also assisting athletes to achieve whatever level of performance they target. Equally, the top level of swimming involvement and the engineering background allow me to break down an athlete’s swim stroke to its component parts and reconstruct it with the relevant emphasis and drills. Swim coaching and my background in the discipline gives me the edge over most multisport coaches who don’t have that specialism.
My swim coaching and endurance coaching aims for two things – outside of the athletes’ own aims. Firstly, a smile on the face! We all do this for a hobby, regardless of what level we are at, so enjoying training to some extent is paramount. Secondly, learning and education is important, to make sure why we are doing the drills we do, why we are doing the sessions and the cycles that we are set. I aim to give that learning as a part of the coaching, but I’m always keen to learn more!

Worked with ASICS and Newton Running so have a very strong understanding of running mechanics and how shoes are designed to work, what they are designed to do – and also what weaknesses are apparent to causing injury.
